INSTITUTE OF PERIPATETIC ARTS

The Institute, a riverfront amenity to the city of Davenport and a home for local art, music and education, exists at a central node of the city. The institute is also the home base for a Mississippi river barge, The Melodia, redefining music education as a moving music scholarship program where high school students make a musical journey up the Mississippi River from New Orleans to Davenport, Iowa. The site is designed to be an extension of the downtown landscape, and extends the riverfront park system while welcoming the general public with an outdoor performance venue. The institute celebrates sound both within the building and on the surrounding site through the careful choice of material and form to provide a musical journey that explores the riverfront in various architectonic and sonic ways.
