NEBRASKA
THE PUBLIC
LIBRARY
Design Study
This is an exercise to assist a public library in Nebraska conceptualize how the existing building and site could be developed to serve the library's patrons better. The focus of this project is to show three conceptual options with budget pricing to help the library understand the cost implications of development to allow them to set a budget and direction for the next steps of the design process. The main challenge of this project is the existing 22,500 SF building which is a 1974 masonry bearing wall construction with stacked stone up to a stucco band where the stone has natural rust spots, the finish of the stucco band is outdated, the storefront and associated glazing are black with minimal fenestration and the Clerestory windows are covered with roofing material to prevent stormwater leakage problems.
